After being a caregiver for both his mother and father in law, Clark Bongaardt, Esquire and his wife, Sallie saw a significant need for quality home care agencies in Delaware County and Montgomery County, PA.
The Springfield PA office office opened in 2002. Clark and Sallie Bongaardt are on-site everyday to answer questions, provide elder care solutions and act as senior care consultants in Audubon, East Norriton, Fort Washington and towns in Montgomery, Chester and Delaware County, PA.
Having been a caregiver himself, Clark has firsthand knowledge of the experience every family goes through when they begin to look for care for an aging loved one.
From the first phone call to the agency to inquire about services to meeting the caregivers and experiencing challenges every day Clark and Sallie like many of the families they help today had no idea where to start, what to ask, how to solve their loved ones ongoing health care needs or where to turn when they needed help.
The Bongaardts were acutely aware of the lack of oversight, communication and customer service in the senior care industry when they started Comfort Keepers. Over the years they used their own experience to improve the industry standards and enhance the customer’s experience.
To address the lack of oversight, the Bongaardts committed to have quality assurance visits and a Registered Nurse on staff to supervise the caregivers. Having personally experienced caregivers who lacked training or supervision, the Bongaardts have invested in the materials and staff needed to have hands on training at the Comfort Keepers office. These investments are to make sure caregivers are safely transferring our clients and providing quality personal care services. They have added additional administrative staff to perform in-home quality assurance reviews as well as hired an outside third party organization Home Care Pulse to survey the clients at random. Home Care Pulse is a national company that compiles data from all customers and then compares Comfort Keepers to the benchmarks. In 2016. 2015, 2014 and 2013 Home Care Pulse named Comfort Keepers Springfield and King of Prussia Best of Home Care and Employer of Choice. The only home care agency in the area they serve with both Provider and Employer of Choice all four years.In 2016 Comfort Keepers Springfield/KOP was named Home Care Pulse Leader in Excellence. Only 4.2% of all agencies surveyed nationwide receive this prestigious award.
In regards to communication, the Bongaardts knew from personal experience that caregivers were late to the home or never showed up and no one called to tell them this. Other issues would arise at the home and when they tried to address them no one from the agency called them back. Once Comfort Keepers opened its doors, Sallie and Clark were determined to have the best communication policies developed and enforced within the office. Families or the senior will be called when caregiver is late, there is a need to replace a caregiver due to call out or there is concern about the client’s health and well being.
The other significant concern Sallie and Clark know families have is the change in your senior’s health care needs. Often adult children do not live with the senior and he or she might not know that senior has not eaten, losing weight, memory is worsening. Sallie committed to putting together a Care Management Team that would coordinate care for Comfort Keepers clients. Our caregiver mentors and coordination team members contact families regularly to update on health care needs and changes.
