East Norriton Township was contained within one of the early manors (towns) which were created by William Penn. This particular manor was called Williamstandt which remained until 1730. At this time, residents formed a petition and Norriton Township was established by the court of Quarter Sessions of Philadelphia County. Later on, March 9, 1909, East Norriton Township separated from the larger Norriton Township. Originally, in 1909, it was served by three elected supervisors, and since 2005 that number increased to five. The current and original township seal was designed by John Yaworski, a local artist, in celebration of the bicentennial of the United States of America in 1976.
