Norristown In-home Care Services
Norristown, Pennsylvania is a densely populated area situated along the Schuylkill River, just outside of Philadelphia. The 2016 census indicates that the population of the busy area is approximately 34, 324 and is home to the Norristown Area School District in Montgomery County.
A bustling county seat, Norristown is the legal and political hub of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and is directly linked to Philadelphia by train on SEPTA's Manayunk/Norristown line. Further, access to trolley lines and high-speed lines to other urban and suburban destinations is provided through the Norristown Transportation Center, which is a useful convenience for a large number of people who visit the area on a daily basis.
From its humble origin as a modest 17th Century settlement, Norristown has been a busy location and one that developed rapidly into an industrial mecca. This is in large part thanks to its location along the Schuylkill River, which created optimal conditions for transportation and commercial growth.
The original settlers of Norristown were of Dutch, English, and Welsh origins, and shortly after founding Norristown, the people of the area dubbed it, "The Biggest Borough in the World." As industry compounded, many immigrants were drawn to the area, because of the promising opportunities that existed for work and entrepreneurship. Railways, mills, and forges all bolstered the sense of industry and provided access to people beyond the boundaries of the town.
When Montgomery County was created on May 1, 1784, Norristown was swiftly named the county seat, and in 1812 the Borough instructed the clerk to keep a county seal. Approximately 21 years after this, a man named David Kneas, who worked on engravings at the U.S Mint designed the beehive emblem for the seal, which remains there today.
A slogan reflective of the determination and hard work of the area's industrial workers was adopted in the Latin form, "Fervet Opus," which means, "The work boils."
Growth happened swiftly and steadily for so much of the city's history that it seemed impossible for the success would end; however, as time marched on, and suburban malls sprouted around the area, Norristown experienced a steep decline in commerce.
Today, Norristown displays the budding promise of revitalization, and the future of the area is growing brighter each day.
